MVA With Entrapment & Medevac
Photos & Story by Michael Ratcliffe
Edison Township (Middlesex County)--Firefighters had to extricate a woman from the wreckage of her car and set up a landing zone for a medevac chopper following a three-vehicle accident in Edison Township, Middlesex County, on Saturday, December 6, 2008. The accident occurred along the eastbound side of Woodbridge Avenue (Route 514) in front of the Raritan Center industrial park shortly before 12:15 p.m. The Edison Fire Department responded with Engine 1, Engine 2, Truck 1 and Fire Rescue 5. Arriving to find a woman heavily entrapped in a car that had collided with two minivans, firefighters immediately went to work with their Holmatro tools. After performing a roof removal and dash displacement, firefighters removed the woman and turned her over to EMS personnel. After Engine 7 responded to set up a landing zone, a state police helicopter landed on Woodbridge Avenue near the accident scene. After being assessed by the flight crew, the woman was loaded aboard the chopper and flown to the trauma center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Initially said to be in critical condition, the woman was reportedly later upgraded to stable condition.
