EWING — Crews from six area fire companies on Friday, July 11, 2008, battled a blaze in a massive pile of trash located inside a large warehouse on the grounds of Mercer Wrecking in the 1500 block of Calhoun Street.

The blaze, reported about 4:30 p.m., was brought under control in less than an hour, although firefighters continued to flow streams of water on the trash long after that as Mercer Wrecking employees used a crane to break up the pile.

The building was not damaged.

Fighting the fire were Prospect Heights, Pennington Road, West Trenton, Slackwood, Lawrence Road and Enterprise fire companies. Firefighters battled a similar trash blaze in the same warehouse on April 24, 2007.
