EWING TOWNSHIP (Mercer County) – It was about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2008, when Pennington Road (Station 32), Prospect Heights (Station 31) and West Trenton (Station 33) fire companies were dispatched for a reported house fire at 1337 Lower Ferry Road. Crews arrived to find smoke showing from the rear of the one-story dwelling, with a working fire in the basement. A rapid intervention team from Lawrence Township’s Lawrence Road Fire Co. (Station 22) and an extra engine company from Lawrence Township’s Slackwood Fire Co. (Station 21) were dispatched to the scene. The bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down and the blaze declared under control in about a half-hour.
