UPPER FREEHOLD - A woman was injured when her car struck a tree and flipped over on a rural road here Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. on Hutchinson Road. State police said the crash remains under investigation, but said it appears the woman's car simply drifted to the right while traveling along the narrow lane and struck a tree growing near the edge of the paved road surface.

The impact with the tree caused the car to roll onto its roof. The woman, whose name was not immediately available, was trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by firefighters from Upper Freehold (Allentown) and New Egypt.

The woman was then rushed by ambulance to Capital Health System at Fuld hospital in Trenton. While her injuries were still being evaluated, they did not appear to be life threatening, state police said.

Firefighters responded from Hope Fire Company of Allentown and New Egypt Fire Company. First Aid Squads who responded were from New Egypt First Aid Squad and Allentown First Aid Squad.
