LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP (MERCER)--Fire fighters responded to a structure fire the originated in a dryer in a second floor apartment on June 22, 2008. The fire at 48 Ricket Court in Lawrence Square village was reported shortly before 3:08 p.m., the first unit arriving on scene reported smoke showing from the 2nd floor and that they were going in service with a 1 3/4" hand line. Several area fire departments responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the fire. Further information to be posted shortly.

Dryer fire forces multiple evacuations

LAWRENCE -- A dryer
fire forced the evacuation of several
town houses in Lawrence Square Village
Sunday afternoon.
Police said a neighbor called 911 just
before 3 p.m. about a fire in a second
floor home. All neighbors were safely
removed from their homes, and
firefighters quickly knocked down the
fire, which was believed to be caused by
a malfunctioning dryer left running when
the owner left home.
Police said there was damage to the
laundry room and hallway area in the
home. The fire was investigated by the
Mercer County fire marshal, Lawrence
fire marshal, and Lawrence Detective
William Chester, but their determination
was that the fire was not suspicious in
nature.
Lawrenceville Fire Co., Lawrence Road
Fire Co., Slackwood Fire Co., and
Mercerville Fire Co. all responded.
