HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP(MERCER) – Two people were injured when the car in which they were traveling slammed into a utility pole on Route 31 Tuesday afternoon, (May 27, 2008) police said. Police said Trenton-resident Tong R. Tong was driving south on Route 31 when, for an unknown reason, his car drifted to the right, left the road and hit a utility pole near the Pennington Golf Center just before 3:30 p.m. Police said Tong suffered abdominal injuries, while his passenger, Mohamed A. Mohamed of Trenton, suffered leg and back injuries. Pennington firefighters had to cut Mohamed free of the wrecked car, police said. Both men were rushed by ambulance to Capital Health System at Fuld hospital in Trenton, where the extent of their injuries were still being evaluated Tuesday night, police and hospital officials said. The crash, which disrupted traffic along Route 31 for about a half-hour, remains under investigation by Officer Vincent Amabile.
